β-Estradiol is the major estrogen secreted by the premenopausal ovary. It acts as an estrogenic hormone receptor (ER) agonist and activator of PI 3-kinase. It is also employed as an agent of stimulating female puberty induction, as in the treatment of delayed puberty caused by hypogonadism or Turner's syndrome. In addition to this, it is used as part of the hormone replacement therapy for transgender women.
