Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Oxalic Acid
Use 5% Oxalic Acid reagent to digest and decontaminate clinical specimens prior to inoculation of media for isolating Mycobacterium species.
Supplier: Thermo Scientific™ RE21285
Description
Digest and decontaminate clinical specimens prior to inoculation of media for isolating Mycobacterium species using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Oxalic Acid reagent. In 1930, Corper and Uyei described an oxalic acid procedure prior to inoculation of media for digestion and decontamination of clinical specimens1. They reported growth of acid-fast bacilli on a variety of media after using this reagent.
Most clinical specimens submitted to the microbiological laboratory for isolation of acid-fast bacilli are contaminated with more rapidly growing commensal microbial flora2. Acid-fast bacilli may also be trapped in respiratory secretions and cannot be cultured without liquefaction of the specimen3. Due to its high acid content, Oxalic Acid (5%) acts as a decontaminating agent. It also acts as a liquefying agent to release the mycobacterial cells from mucin in the respiratory specimen.Ready-to-use: Liquid reagentEspecially useful in specimens contaminted with Pseudomonas spp3.This reagent contains 5% w/v of oxalic acid supplied as 250mlL bottles. Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
